Sasini has continuously focused on strategies that lay emphasis on growing and processing of coffee within the best accepted international standards according to the current global trend on sustainability and environmental protection. Unlike other manufactured goods, food items have minimal recalls and these calls for the need to ensure that hazards and risks are taken care of through introduction of stringent operating procedures and programs in the production chain. The quest to have ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System certification was born out of this need.
In February 2005 Sasini became the first large coffee grower in East and Central Africa to undertake Utz certification based on social, sustainability and environmental conservation. This year the company made unprecedented commitment to undertake Rainforest Alliance Certification based on sustainability and environmental conservation and ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System certification covering the entire plantation, the Coffee Mill and finished products. This feat has once again been replicated and the company is the first large coffee grower in the country to embrace Food Safety Management System in coffee production and manufacturing process.
With ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System certification embraced an additional standard which is essential in maintaining high quality service, consistency in production and traceability throughout the production chain and manufacturing processes.Currently, Sasini is the largest commercial miller with the capacity to process twelve tones per hour and controlling slightly above 22% of the total national production in the country.
