In today’s global landscape, there is a growing emphasis on sustainability and the responsible utilisation of energy resources. At Sasini PLC, we have successfully embraced sustainability through the implementation of eco-friendly operational practices. One notable example of this is our utilisation of solar panels in our Keritor and Kipkebe tea factories,, a strategic move that has allowed us to both diminish our environmental impact and cut down on operational expenses.

The decision to install solar panels was a technological upgrade that resulted in a significant shift towards more responsible energy usage. Embracing and spreading this technology to the other areas of our operations, namely, coffee, macadamia and avocado divisions will definitely lead to a reduction in our greenhouse gas emissions.

Another remarkable outcome of our solar panel project is the considerable cost savings it has brought about. While the initial investment in solar panel installation may seem significant, the long-term benefits are undeniable. With our 650KW system, we have seen a noticeable drop in our energy costs. As electricity prices from conventional sources continue to rise, our reliance on solar power has proven to be a wise financial move.

Our choice of high-efficiency 1215 panels of 535W each at Kipkebe and Keritor sites is a key factor in these savings. These panels consistently deliver excellent performance, effectively harnessing the abundant sunlight in Keritor and Kipkebe to generate electricity. Another remarkable aspect of our solar panel system is its ability to power 70% of our energy consumption. This level of energy self-sufficiency offers us a sense of security and stability in a dynamic energy landscape. By generating a significant portion of our power needs, we are less susceptible to power outages and energy price fluctuations. This is how we underpin Principle 9 of the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) – to encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

This self-sufficiency enhances our operational resilience and ensures that we can maintain a smooth and uninterrupted production process. It’s a strategic advantage that underscores our commitment to providing high-quality products and services to our customers.
