Macadamia Nuts

As part of the continuing diversification initiatives, also informed by our concern for health and coupled by our drive to nourish the world, macadamia nuts processing was introduced in an export processing zone within our own farm in Kiambu County in Central Highlands of Kenya near Nairobi.
This line of business is run by our subsidiary Sasini Fruits & Nuts EPZ Kenya Limited.
The venturing into Macadamia business was mainly to align our unwritten mantra – ‘nourishing our world’, with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3, to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages.
The mature nuts in shell in their unprocessed form are sourced from other well managed and controlled farms within the region. The company has also intercropped macadamia trees with the coffee trees within our vast estates to sustain future production and supplies.

The nuts are processed in the newly built ultramodern processing factory and are mainly exported to United Kingdom, Europe and U.S.A, among other markets.
The factory was commissioned in March 2019 and embraces principles of food safety in the handling and processing of macadamia nuts, which are manufactured using the latest technology.
The factory has a capacity to crack about 6m kgs of nut in shell (NIS) annually with a good whole kernel recovery ratio. The processed nuts are exported to USA, Europe and Asia.
The current strategy is to expand own orchards that will offer a platform for training our out-grower farmers community under disciplined guidelines to ensure good crop quality, enhance quantity and traceability.
The business unit is also engaged in establishing a nursery for certified seedlings for planting in own farms as well as supply to other interested growers.
