In the heart of our tea operations, a quiet revolution takes place, one powered by the boundless energy of the sun. As the first rays of daylight grace our tea estates, our solar panels spring to life, absorbing sunlight and transforming it into power.
Our investment in solar panels is a business decision that not only benefits the environment but also saves us money. We believe that sustainability and profitability can go hand in hand, and the use of solar energy is an example of that. By being deliberate in our intention to reduce our carbon footprint, we are doing our part to create a more sustainable future for ourselves and the planet ,by driving SDG No.7 – Affordable & Clean Energy.
Leading the charge in our solar transformation are Kipkebe and Keritor factories, where we have effectively implemented a 650kw solar system. Comprising 1215 panels of 535W each at both locations, they collaborate to capture 70% of the peak load energy required to power the said factories. This, in turn, enhances efficiency and helps us to reduce costs while minimizing our environmental impact. Our commitment to Sustainable Developments Goals (SDGs) and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices extends well beyond our factory gates.
We are deeply rooted in our communities, and our Corporate Social Responsibility/Investment (CSR)/(CSI) initiatives reflect our dedication. Consider Emboye Primary School situated near our Magura estate where we have initiated digitization of the learning facilities and sunk a borehole. Our goal is to drill three boreholes annually to address our neighbouring community water scarcity challenges. These initiatives point to our commitment in delivering SDG No.4 – Quality Education, SDG No.3 – Good Health and well-being, SDG No.15 – Life On Land, as well as SDG No.6 – Clean water and sanitation.
As you explore our path towards sustainability, it is imperative to keep in mind that as a business entity, we are also catalysts for positive transformation. Our dedication to sustainable farming practices also includes the integration of indigenous trees, which provide shade, support ecosystems, and enhance soil health through regenerative agricultural practices.
Our deliberate adoption of solar energy, combined with our resolute dedication to community advancement and sustainable farming distinguishes us as a guiding light in a world that calls for thorough and ethical business practices.
